Glassdoor: Google Lands in Top 5 Among 2012 Best Employers

.

Google landed in the top 5 places to work in 2012, alongside fellow technology giants Apple and Facebook, according to a new Glassdoor survey.

The fourth annual Employees’ Choice award highlights 50 of the best workplaces. The findings are measured through company employees’ survey responses on Glassdoor.com.

“The reviews are in,” said the career community website in its Dec. 14 press release. “Employees have spoken, revealing the best companies to work for in 2012; and, they love working at some of the biggest tech, science and management consulting companies in the nation…

Glassdoor’s 20-question survey asked employees about career opportunities, compensation and benefits, work and social life balance, communication and feedback, among other things.

Glassdoor CEO and founder Robert Hohman said employees from over 65,000 companies responded to the survey.

Google earned the coveted No. 5 spot with a “Satisfied” rating of 4.0 out of 5, compared to last year’s No. 30 ranking with a 3.7 score.

Consulting firm Bain & Company took the top award at 4.7, followed by McKinsey & Company. Facebook won the No. 1 spot last year but slipped to third place with a score of 4.3, while Apple rounded the top 10 with a 3.9 score.

Other top technology companies listed include Groupon at No. 40 and Intel at No. 32.

Google’s CEO Larry Page, who took the reins in April, garnered a 92 percent approval rating on Glassdoor.

One employee review said the tech company is “one of the best employers” and cited “open culture,” “high respect and freedom to engineers” and “well rounded” as just a few its main allures.
