2012-Kindle-Fire

Amazon’s Kindle Fire HD is a prime example of solid hardware being weighed down by bulky software, but there appears to be a resolution in the works. The CyanogenMod community has just released a new set of nightly builds for the 2012 Kindle Fire HD (7 and 8.9-inch models). Currently pushing experimental status, improved stable builds are expected to land soon.

One of our biggest gripes about the Kindle Fire HD in our review was its clunky operating system and even though this software is still in its early stages, CyanogenMod 11 offers a fairly smooth version of KitKat. Of course there’s always a slight element of danger when modifying a device’s software, however in this case the rewards just might outweigh the risks.

If you’re up for a challenge, you can snag the software for your respective device from one of the source links below.
