Kamioke app for Google Glass lets you sing along to your favorite songs

A new app for Google Glass has been released today, which essentially hopes to turn the head-mounted computer into a Karaoke machine. The real value that this app has — especially considering that Glass is still beta, and $1,5000 — can’t really be quantified at the moment, but there’s no doubt that the idea is intriguing.

The app comes by way of Glass Explorers Sharon Bacani and Mohammad Adib, with its branding being done by the people behind the Google Glass decal company GPOP. To grab Kamioke, head over to its website to just click the download button. You’ll be asked for your name and email address to download the app, and you’ll be guided through the process of sideloading it if you’re unfamiliar.

Kamioke has 10 songs built-in, all of which have been licensed for inclusion in the app. To get started, all you have to do is say “Ok Glass, let’s sing,” tap the Playlist card, and tap the song you want to sing. Check out the below video for a quick visual demonstration.

Notably, Google offers only very limited support for apps of this kind for Google Glass. Most apps included in Google’s Glassware list have been developed with the Mirror API, and don’t have access to things like the device’s camera and GPS. The inclusion of full-fledged apps like Kamioke has slowly been introduced, but requires developers go through a very rigorous approval process.
