Google testing voice controls for media playback

Google appears to be testing new voice command controls for media playback. Available to some, this new feature adds commands like “Ok Google, next song” when listening to music. Based on the company’s big push for wearables, Android in the car and on your TV, this hands-free approach seems like a natural progression.

During a recent Android Auto presentation at Google I/O, Mountain View put a major emphasis on being able to access your favorite apps and mobile services safely while driving. Since this new platform lets users plug their smartphone directly into their car, it’s only a matter of time before we start seeing several different voice command tweaks added to Google Now that will make managing media and other applications a whole lot easier from behind the wheel.

To test if your device has this new feature enabled, fire up Music, head to a playlist and try the voice command “Ok Google, next song.” To see this new feature in action, check out the demo video embedded above and feel free to let us know if this or any other new voice-controlled commands are working with your smartphone or tablet.
