Citrix announces Receiver app for Chrome OS, allows remote access to other devices from within the browser

Google and Citrix today announced a new partnership that will bring a variety of new enterprise features to Chrome OS powered devices. Citrix’s Receiver app is now available for Chromebooks everywhere and allows direct access to the device’s system resources, including settings for things such as printing, audio, and video.

Being marketed towards enterprise users, the Citrix Receiver app assigns a unique Receiver ID to each device so it can be monitored by an administrators. The Receiver ID also allows for improved integration between remote and local applications, as well as many more under the hood features.

Google and Citrix’s new partnership will see the software brought to 20 global entraps over the next few months, including health care. Citrix cited the popularity and continued growth of Chromebooks as reasons for this new partnership.

“Citrix and Google are changing the way people work. In addition to the joint collaboration around XenApp and XenDesktop with Chromebooks, Citrix ShareFile features a personal cloud connector for accessing Google Drive files, Citrix GoToMeeting® is now available on Chrome, and Citrix Podio is integrated with Google Apps. Google and Citrix are committed to continued innovation across our product lines to bring best in class mobile workspaces to our customers.”

For those unfamiliar, Citrix Receiver is an app that allows you to access any of your remote desktops from other devices, including, in this case, Chromebooks and other Chrome OS devices.
