Google opens a Google Glass basecamp in London, UK

Today, Google announced that it has opened yet another Google Glass Basecamp, this time in London, UK. And while it may seem that Google has definitely put Glass on the back burner with the flurry of Android Wear announcements, this is a comforting reassurance that the Glass project hasn’t been abandoned. You can schedule a visit to the new Basecamp online, where you’re able to register for a “demo,” “try and buy,” a “fitting,” or “support.”

Some have given them the false-image of being Google’s “Glass Stores,” but basecamps—at least for now—aren’t necessarily for selling you product. You can buy Google Glass perfectly well online for $1,500 and, while it may seem strange, Google doesn’t really push its prospective Glass-buyers to come to a Basecamp. Actually, most Explorers go to a Basecamp for the first time when they have a problem with their device. Walking into one of these “shops” won’t make you feel pressured to buy Glass—it’s more like an Apple store where you’re free to demo the device at will, and a place to run when you need great customer service.
