Twitter brings ‘Highlights’ to its Android app, gives you a quick summary of your feed

Twitter has today announced that it’s bringing a new feature called “Highlights” to its official Android app. The feature aims to condense your Twitter feed to be much more easily digestible, giving you only the tweets and stories that you really want. When you don’t have time to flick through your entire timeline, Twitter hopes you’ll go to Highlights for a grab-and-go fix…

When you tap the new Highlights button at the top of the app, you’ll be given a collection of several different card-like pages to swipe through. You can see all kinds of content, including stories that are trending in your area, content the people you follow are talking about, new people to follow, and tweets that your friends are favoriting.

To enable the feature, you need to head over to the app’s Settings page. From there, tap your Twitter username, tap “Mobile notifications,” and then scroll down to enable “Highlights”. After you’ve done this, you can expect to receive notifications when Twitter has put together a new set of Highlights for you.

If you don’t have an Android phone, it looks like you’re out of luck for the time being. “We’re refining the experience on Android first and will consider bringing Highlights to other platforms in the future,” Twitter says. Head over to the Play Store to download the latest version of the app.

Our thoughts: I don’t think this is something I would ever use. I’ve never found that social media “suggested stories” features have ever given me anything close to something that I’m interested in. The perfect example are the three cards that Twitter gave me when I first tried it out (as you can see above). I don’t find any of these three things interesting, and I’m much more likely to find something interesting from scrolling through my feed myself.
