EPIX channel available on Android TV starting today

EPIX, the premium video network available on cable, satellite, and over the web, is releasing its channel for Android TV today, it announced in a press release. The channel will offer four live EPIX channel feeds as well as streaming access to thousands of movies, comedy events, and more.

The app features ratings from Rotten Tomatoes, movie trailers, extras like movie previews and behind-the-scenes clips, as well as global Google search integration and Android TV recommendations. With Android TV’s voice search you’ll be able to use voice commands to say something like “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” from any place in the Android TV interface and see EPIX results alongside other apps, and EPIX content will also be included in the home screen recommendations, based on a user’s recent,  frequent usage behaviors, and content preferences.

Unfortunately for those of us who have either cut the cord or who have never had a premium TV subscription from a company like Comcast or Time Warner Cable, EPIX will be out of reach – you can’t just subscribe over the Internet. The app should be accessible from the Play Store on Android TV starting now.

Google also has a blog post up sharing the news as well as how other content providers can take advantage of the Android TV platform.
