Xiaomi Mi 4c officially announced, features Snapdragon 808 chip, 5-inch 1080p display and USB Type-C for under $205

Xiaomi has a growing reputation for releasing smartphones with impressive spec lists and features for very affordable prices. Its latest “flagship” was unveiled just a short while ago and features some flagship matching specs, but with a price that’s far below what you’d expect it to be…

The Xiaomi Mi 4c is the manufacturer’s latest regular-sized smartphone and joins the recently announced Redmi Note 2 phablet just in time for the holiday season. The Mi 4c boasts an impressive full HD 5-inch display, which is powered by Qualcomm’s 1.8GHz Snapdragon 808 hexa-core processor. Incidentally, the same chip is found inside the LG G4 and the new Moto X Style/Pure. The display itself has a few notable features, including a special night-time mode for making it easier to read at night, and a daylight mode for boosting visibility in bright sunshine. Another intriguing feature is the ‘Edge Tap’ function, which lets you take a selfie, or go back by tapping the edge of the phone either once or twice.

It’s got a 13MP rear camera with phase detection autofocus and two-tone flash, and plays home to a 3,080mAh battery and an infrared blaster. It has a USB Type-C connector and — unlike the OnePlus 2 — it is compatible Quick Charge 2.0 technology. And since USB Type-C is a new technology, Xiaomi is offering a Micro USB to Type-C adapter for just ¥5 (about 78 cents).

Xiaomi’s Mi 4c will ship in white, black, blue, pink and orange and will be available in two different storage and memory options. The lowest-priced version has 2GB and 16GB of storage and costs ¥1299 (roughly $205), or you can pay ¥1499 ($235) and get a device equipped with 3GB RAM and 32GB storage. The device weighs just 132 grams (0.3 pounds), and measures in at just 7.8mm thin. As you’d expect, the device features Dual SIM LTE support as standard.

It’ll be available to order from mi.com from tomorrow, September 23rd in China. We’re not sure when it will be available internationally, but we’ll be sure to update you once/if it is.
