Google Search now has a Pinterest-like image saving feature

Google today has added the ability to save and organize the photos you find through Image search. The Pinterest-like feature currently only works on a mobile browser, but will be welcomed by those who often browse via Google Image search.

When you preview an image from a Google search, a save button now appears underneath it. Saved images can be accessed through a shortcut on the bottom right of any image results page or at google.com/save. Two tabs at the top give you the option to view all your saved images or look through collections.

Tapping on a saved image from this page allows you to delete it, edit the name (which by default is the title of the page the image is from), and assign it to a collection. The collection view is fairly basic and allows you to delete multiple at once. When you tap on an image, it takes you to the page the image is from and not the image directly.

The interface is very much reminiscent of the old Google+ Photos app. Interestingly, users are unable to view saved images and collections from a desktop, as that results in an error page. This is not Google’s first attempt at saving and organizing things you find through search. Two years ago, the company played around with saving and organizing links using a similar staring system.

This new photo saving feature is only available in the US and works on major Android and iOS web browsers.
