Rumor: Samsung’s Gear S2 Classic coming in new platinum and rose gold variants

This is definitely in the realm of “unsubstantiated rumors,” but it looks like the popular Samsung Gear S2 smartwatch — which runs a custom build of Tizen and sports a rotating dial on its bezel — is getting a couple new colors. This comes from a WinFuture.de writer on Twitter, suggesting that the two new variants will be in “platinum” and “rose gold” colors for the Gear S2 Classic version of the watch…

New smartwatch variants seems to be a popular theme this time of year. Last year at CES, Samsung introduced a new metal version of its SmartWatch 3 Android Wear smartwatch, which arrived with little fanfare. On a related note, sources have told us that Huawei is planning to launch new women’s versions of its Huawei Watch smartwatch. These will include rounder bezels and more feminine watch bands.

The S2 Classic sports better materials than its standard S2 bretheren, and takes a user-replaceable 20mm watch band. The casing is made of 316L stainless steel, with a ceramic rotating bezel clicks as it turns. The Classic also has a 360 x 360 1.2-inch AMOLED touchscreen, but the rotating bezel is much more satisfying to use for navigation. Dom says “the Gear S2’s bezel is hands-down the best way to navigate a smartwatch to date.”
