Waze unveils new Transport SDK, partnering with popular apps like Lyft to offer smart integration

Waze is already the go-to app for real-time traffic updates, and today they’ve upped their game. Waze has officially announced its Transport SDK, which will give partners the ability to implement some of Waze’s features into their own applications. There will be no need to switch out of an app just to see a road block two miles ahead in the not-so-distant future.

Waze has partnered with some pretty notable names such as Lyft, Genesis, Pulse, JustPark, Cornershop, Cabify, and 99Taxis. The driver will be able to stay in their appropriate driving application while still being able to find the best route. Waze can show the user police, roadblocks, traffic jams, and a plethora of more information. Since a majority of its information is from the driver community, there will be a huge increase of data fed into the database. This means that the driver, passenger, and Waze community will be positively affected.

The Waze SDK will be available in all countries that Waze is present. Waze gives an example of this SDK impacting delivery services, such as food, and even things such as valet parking. Pretty much any scenario that you have a driver using an app to complete their job, Waze’s SDK can make it that much more efficient.

Waze has sweetened the deal, too, with discounts!

To celebrate the Waze Transport SDK, Lyft, Cornershop and JustPark are offering Wazers special discounts for trying their services. Lyft is offering $5 on each of your first 10 rides. Cornershop is offering 5000 CLP for Wazers in Chile (promo code WAZECHILE) and 150 MXN for Wazers in Mexico (promo code WAZEMX). Finally JustPark is offering 10 pounds off their services with the code WAZE10.

If you would like to learn more about the Waze SDK, check that out here. Personally, I’m an avid Waze user, and I think this a great step forward. This will make the drivers jobs that much easier and save the passenger a few bucks, instead of getting stuck in traffic. You could even get your pizza while it’s still warm if a pizza joint decides to implement the SDK. Whichever way you think of it, this is a small but positive step in a long journey.
