Google posts Android 6.0 Marshmallow factory images for the Nexus 5X

Google has today, on the press review embargo lift day and available-to-buy-outright day, posted factory images for the Nexus 5X, otherwise known as “bullhead.” They’re all for version 6.0.0, but there’s currently three different builds available. It’s not clear what the differences are between them, but it’s likely that they’re minuscule at most.

You can find the three 6.0.0 images over at Google’s Developers website, or you can find quick links below (clicking them will pull straight from Google’s servers):

If you’re on the fence about buying the Nexus 5X (or you’re considering going with the Nexus 6P instead), be sure to head over and read our review roundups for both devices from earlier today: Nexus 5X, and Nexus 6P. The general consensus, for those that are out of the loop, is that the Nexus 6P is pretty much the Android handset to beat.

Sprint says Android 5.0.1 Lollipop for Nexus 5 ‘released,’ should be rolling out soon (Update: T-Mobile too)

Sprint has updated its software update release notes page for the Nexus 5 to list a release date of December 15th (today) for the much-awaited 5.0.1 update to Android Lollipop. The build, version LRX22C, should be rolling out to devices starting today but–as usual–could take several days to arrive.

Since we’ve been waiting a while and this is one of the last devices to get the 5.0.1 update, this should be sign that the update will be rolling out to all devices regardless of carrier soon. The update doesn’t pack any known big features, but is rather an incremental under-the-hood update.

Google has yet to update its factory image download page on the Developers site with the image for this release, but we wouldn’t be surprised if that showed up very soon. Downloads are available, however, for the Nexus 4, 6, 7 (certain models), 9, and 10. We’ll update this post when you can grab the latest build for the Nexus 5.

Samsung investing up to $3 billion for second smartphone factory in Vietnam

According to a new report from Reuters, Samsung plans to invest as much as $3 billion toward opening its second Vietnam-based smartphone factory in an effort to produce hardware at a lower cost. An unnamed government official confirmed that the project is ongoing, and a Samsung spokesperson shared that the company is in talks with the government over the investment.

South Korea’s Samsung Electronics Co Ltd (005930.KS) has applied for a license to invest $3 billion in building a second smartphone factory in northern Vietnam, a government official said on Monday.

Google shutting down Motorola’s U.S. manufacturing plant ahead sale to Lenovo

Motorola Mobility, still owned by Google until the sale to Lenovo completes, announced today that it’s closing the Texas-based manufacturing plant that it opened in May of last year to build its Moto X smartphone. The plant, which employees approximately 700 employees, is said to be closing its doors by the end of the year, according to a report from The Wall Street Journal:
