Google closes Meebo bar on June 6 in push for Google+ Sign-In

Google is finally pulling the plug on the Meebo Bar, a tool for web publishers that allowed website visitors to interact with the site and share content, on June 6 …

Google quickly closed down most of Meebo’s other services soon after acquiring the company for $100m last June, with Meebo Bar the last surviving service.

While Google has shut down a number of products, stating that it wanted to focus on what it saw as its most popular and relevant ones, this move is all part of Google’s push to make Google+ as popular as Facebook and Twitter when it comes to sharing website content. Google is hoping that websites will switch to its own Google+ Sign-In service to replace the lost functionality.
