Google testing new web search feature: In-depth articles

Search Engine Land has an interesting snippit on a new web-search feature Google appears to be testing: in-depth articles. Embedded in the existing search results is a box-out with links to particularly detailed articles, in this case restaurant reviews in a search for Mexican restaurants …

As SEL notes, Google tests all kinds of things, only a handful of which are ever launched (and some of which are launched and then withdrawn), but we hope this one will make it through. Despite launching innovative new services like Google Now, its original web search is looking decidedly dated.

The cat-and-mouse game it plays with companies trying to game search results is never-ending, with all too many searches generating gibberish on page one, so results which prioritise solid articles would definitely be a step in the right direction.
