Here’s a look at Google Stars in action (video)

A couple of weeks ago, an ambitious software developer by the name of Florian Kiersch uncovered an unannounced Google platform known as Stars. From the looks of things, this new product is Google’s next-gen take on bookmarking content from the web. Up until now, we’ve only seen still shots of the forthcoming software, however thanks to a recent Javascript module update, Kiersch was able to gain access to parts of Stars’ web-based UI.

While it’s not a lot to look at, the video showcases the process of setting up and organizing a collection of content folders. In its current form, Stars’ web setup is somewhat reminiscent of an earlier version of Drive.

We originally thought Stars would be ready for next month’s I/O conference, but the software’s current state tells a different tale.

“Actually, I was a bit surprised that the current state of Stars is behind my expectations (especially regarding I/O), Kiersch told 9to5Google. “I’m very curious how fast the developers will progress in the next two weeks.”

While Stars might not make it to I/O, the developer openly admitted that he was unsure of Google’s workflow for this type of project. He also pointed out that there’s a missing Chrome extension for Stars that could have dedicated functionality tied to it. Although we may not be sure when Stars will be ready for mass consumption, we now have a better idea of what to expect when Google reveals Chrome’s new way to bookmark internet content.
