Android Device Manager updated with new guest-mode feature

Over the past few months, Google has greatly beefed up its Android Device Manager service, partly due to legislation in many states, and partly due to increased competition from Apple’s new Activation Lock service. Today, Google has updated its Device Manager app to version 1.2.

The update is rather small, but does add one huge feature. Should you lose your device or have it stolen, you can now log into someone’s Android Device Manager app, with your account, and track your device. You’ll have full access to the remote lock feature, as well as the controls for ringing, locking, and restoring the device.

For those unfamiliar, Android Device Manager is a service that allows users to track lost or stolen devices. The app and website provide a plethora of features, including the ability to wipe your device and have it ring.

The update to Android Device Manager is available on the Play Store now
