Chromecast beta extension now supporting 1080p tab casting

The latest build of the beta version of Google’s Cast Chrome extension is now serving up 1080p tab casting. Not a finished product, you’re likely to encounter a few bugs while using it, however it should help give an idea of what’s coming to it’s more refined counterpart. The recent update introduces more robust control options under a section marked “Custom mirroring settings.”

These advanced user options, will let you manually adjust minimum and maximum bitrate fields, as well as select resolutions that range from a meager 854 x 480 to a crispy 1,920 x 1,080. Just remember, in order to take advantage of this new functionality, you’ll need a respectable internet connection and a TV capable of cranking out a 1080p picture. Between this and new casting features for YouTube, Google’s $35 media stick is showing no signs of slowing down.
