Quick comparison: Samsung Galaxy Note 4 vs Galaxy Note 3 (Video)

Samsung’s Galaxy Note 4 was one of the major announcements during this year’s IFA show in Berlin. The new smartphone sports a fanatically durable design with a metal frame that gives it a very premium look. Overall, this is the phablet to buy in 2014, but how does it compare to its predecessor? Let’s find out in our Galaxy Note 4 vs Galaxy Note 3 spec comparison…

As I mentioned, the Note 4 is a major step forward in Galaxy smartphone build quality. The Galaxy Alpha was the first device announced that featured a metal frame (hands-on video here), but Samsung continued this trend with its Note 4. Trust me, this makes a huge difference in how you’ll feel about the device. If you’ve been growing tired of the same old plastic construction found on the Note 3, Galaxy S5, and many others, I highly recommend giving the Note 4 a chance.

As far as specifications go, the Galaxy Note 4 features a 5.7-inch Quad HD (2560×1440) Super AMOLED display, 2.7GHz quad-core processor, 3GB of RAM, and a 3,220mAh battery. When compared to the Note 3, there’s only a minor adjustment to the specs.

The Note 3 has a 5.7-inch 1080p Super AMOLED display, 2.3GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor, 3GB of RAM, and 3,200 mAh battery. The increase in specifications on the Note 4 is minor, but will it make a performance difference?

The Galaxy Note 4 also features a 16-megapixel camera which is a step up from the 13-megapixel shooter found on the Note 3. While the front facing camera on the Note 4 is up to 3.7-megapixels over the 2-megapixel camera on the Note 3.

We ran Geekbench 3 on both of the devices and as the specifications show, there’s not a huge difference in the benchmark scores. It’s hard to tell what the actual difference will be without real world performance testing, though, so stay tuned for our full review in the future. For a closer look at benchmarks, check out the above video.

As mentioned, the Note 4 features a metal frame with a plastic back. This alone makes a huge difference in overall quality. Some would argue that Samsung should have been making devices like this for a long time, or even with the Galaxy S5, but at least there is a forward progression. The Note 4 is definitely going to be the phablet of the year. What’s your favorite Note 4 feature? Let us know below.
