Slingplayer app for tablets updated with Chromecast and Roku support

A few weeks back, Sling announced that it was updating its Android phone app with ability to stream content to a Chromecast-enabled television. Noticeably missing at the time was an update to the company’s Android tablet app. This morning, however, Sling has started rolling out an update to Slingplayer for tablets with all the features its phone counterpart got last month.

In addition to the ability to cast content to a Chromecast, today’s update also adds Roku compatibility. This means that you can “hand off” what you’re currently streaming on your tablet to your Roku set-top, presuming they are associated with the same Sling account.

We’re ecstatic to announce that Chromecast support has arrived for Slingbox M1, 350 and SlingTV/500 customers using the Slingplayer app… When paired with the Slingplayer app, you’ll be able to watch any of your cable or satellite programming (live or recorded) on any TV that’s been set up with Chromecast. Remember, both the Chromecast device and Slingplayer-equipped mobile device must be on the same network. And when they are, you’ll be able to control your TV with a soft remote interface that shows up on your phone or tablet

Finally, Sling also says this update includes improvements in “streaming experience,” various design updates, and your standard set of bug fixes. The Slingplayer for tablet app is available on the Play Store for $14.99.
