WSJ: Google to unveil 5.9-inch Nexus 6 this month

The Wall Street Journal has published a new report claiming that Google plans to release the Nexus 6 at some point this month. The article, citing three sources, is incredibly sparse on details, but does corroborate all of what we exclusively reported last month.

For one, the WSJ confirms that the device will pack a 5.9-inch display and that it has been tested internally as the Shamu. We, of course, reported last month that the device will also pack a qHD resolution of 2560 x 1440, which comes out to 498 pixels-per-inch. The device, according to our sources, will also pack a 3,200mAh battery and a 13MP rear camera with 4k video capabilities. Finally, the Nexus 6 will be powered by a Snapdragon 805 processor coupled with 3GB of RAM.

Earlier this week it was reported that the Nexus 9 would be released this month as well, perhaps on October 16th. It would make sense for Google to launch both the Nexus 6, Nexus 9, and Android L on the same day, even if that day is also when Apple is expected to unveil new Macs and iPads.

Regarding pricing, the WSJ simply says that Google hopes to offer a Nexus phone that “rivals” Apple’s iPhone 6 Plus, which starts at $749 without a contract in the United States.
