Android Wear 4.4W.2 rolling out to LG G Watch, brings the beginnings of GPS and Offline music support

A new version of the Android Wear firmware is rolling out to the LG G Watch today, and with it comes what appears to be the first parts of some intriguing new features. These new features, including support for on-board GPS and offline music playback via Bluetooth, have long been promised to Android Wear users. And today, it appears that the LG G Watch is the first device to start showing signs that these features are coming in full.

The update is version 4.4W.2 and claims build number KNX01Q, and Google has seemingly confirmed (via Android Police) that this update does indeed include the aforementioned support for GPS And Bluetooth music. But as far as we can see, there’s not yet any way to actually load music to the storage of the G Watch and, with this specific device, the GPS features mean nothing because it doesn’t actually have GPS hardware. (The Sony SmartWatch 3 is the only Android Wear device so far that does.)

What is in this update is a new button that’s called “Play music,” and the screen that shows music currently playing has been updated with some new functionality. Additionally, Google+ user +BrandonDSouza has discovered that there are now settings for pairing Bluetooth speakers/headphones to the device. You can find screenshots of all of these new features below and, if we find out that there actually is a way to load music onto the G Watch with this update installed, we’ll update this post.

Keep an eye on your G Watch (and likely other Android Wear devices soon), as the update is rolling out automatically.
