Google signs lease for a former Nabisco factory in New York

Google recently purchased some premium real estate close to its headquarters in Mountain View, California and it looks like the outfit is trying to expanding its office setup on the East Coast. According to Vornado Realty Trust the tech company has signed a lease for an 180,000 square foot industrial space in New York at 85 10th Avenue that used to be a Nabisco factory.

Located west of Chelsea Market, where Google leases additional space, which is also west of 111 8th Avenue, the property the company purchased in 2010. With this new addition, the search giant now leases near 1 million square feet in New York. Google’s new building was originally built in 1913 and sold by Nabisco (yep, the cookie people) in 1959 when it relocated to New Jersey. The internet’s reigning search king is reportedly planning to double the size of its offices after completing a lease with the federal government that ends next year, according to The Wall Street Journal.

Not just the only big tech company in New York’s Chelsea community, the area is also home to the shorthand social media heavyweight Twitter.
