T-Mobile adds Google Play Music (& other services) to its Music Freedom program

T-Mobile announced today the addition of 14 music streaming services to its Music Freedom program including Google Play Music. First announced at its Uncarrier 5.0/6.0 event in June, T-Mobile’s Music Freedom program allows customers on the network to stream content from supported music services without it counting against a monthly data cap. T-Mobile promised the addition of Google Play Music by the end of the year in August when Google’s subscription streaming music service was voted most wanted by T-Mobile’s customers. At the time, T-Mobile also introduced support for both Rdio and Songza as part of the Music Freedom initiative; Google had just purchased Songza for what might have amounted to $15 million during the previous month.

Alongside the addition of Google Play Music today, T-Mobile has also added Microsoft’s Xbox Music, SoundCloud, RadioTunes, Digitally Imported, Fit Radio, Fresca Radio, JAZZRADIO, Live365, Mad Genius Radio, radioPup, radio.com, ROCKRADIO, and Saavn.

In addition to Rdio and Songza as well as today’s newly added services, T-Mobile Music Freedom also supports Rhapsody, Pandora, AccuRadio, Black Planet, Grooveshark, iHeartRadio, iTunes Radio, Samsung Milk Music, Radio Paradise, and Slacker for streaming content over the mobile network without using data.

In the official announcement, T-Mobile noted that nearly 1 million people voted for Google Play Music, Xbox Music, and SoundCloud as requested services for the Music Freedom program.

Google Play Music includes access to streaming more than 30 million songs without ads for $9.99/month. Starting last week, subscribers also get access to Google’s newly launched YouTube Music Key service as well.
