Facebook Messenger now available through Google Glass w/ new Fessenger app

It may be the perfect example of “a day late and a dollar short,” but a new app called Fessenger is now available for Google Glass, allowing users to send and receive messages through Facebook’s chat protocol (via Glass Almanac). The app’s release comes after Google graduated the Glass project out of Google [x] and into its own division under Tony Fadell…

It’s a pretty simple concept. Here’s the app’s official description:

Finally, you can send, receive and reply to Facebook messages on Glass with Fessenger. No more hassle to pull your phone out of your pocket. Use this Glasware when you are out and about, or when you are multi-tasking: cooking, jogging, shopping, doing laundry, and more. Start using Fessenger today and experience it for yourself! Just say “ok glass, post an update”.

This would have been a great app to have in the early days of Glass, but now that the Explorer Program is winding down and the current hardware is going to soon be antiquated, the audience for new Glass apps in general is smaller than ever. But if you’re one of the few who still use the first-generation Glass on a daily basis and have a need for Facebook Messenger, this new app should do the trick.

The release of this actually falls in line with what Google would prefer. As we told you last week, while it’s uncertain what the future of Glass development will look like, Google still hopes that developers will continue to build for the platform. Until further notice, the Glass team will still be updating the Glassware directory fairly often to add and remove apps as needed.

To install the app, make sure you have your Glass device linked to your Google account and head over to the Glassware directory.
