LG reportedly pushes back G4 launch due to competition from Samsung

According to a new report from the Korea Times, LG has decided not to release its expected G4 flagship at Mobile World Congress next month. Instead, the company plans to release it on its own during April. Last year, the G3 was released on May 27th, but LG is believed to still anticipate releasing its successor before that day this year.

According to the report, LG doesn’t want the launch of its 2015 flagship smartphone to be overshadowed at Mobile World Congress by the release of the Samsung Galaxy S6. The company also doesn’t want the device’s launch to be overshadowed by Apple’s WWDC event in June. For those reasons, LG has reportedly settled on an April launch for the G4.

Of course, another possibility for the delay is that LG is running into issues with the Snapdragon 810 processor, which is said to have been affected by overheating problems. Samsung has reportedly scrapped its plans to use the Snapdragon 810 chip in favor of its own Exynos processor. LG, however, doesn’t have that luxury and is dependent upon Qualcomm for the Snapdragon chipset.

As always, release dates could change and LG could bump the launch of the G4 back to MWC, but at this point don’t expect to see much from the company at MWC in Barcelona next month.
