Google CFO Patrick Pichette announces retirement, transition to occur over next 6 months

Patrick Pichette

According to The Wall Street Journal, Google’s Chief Financial Officer Patrick Pichette is retiring from the company. Pichette joined Google as CFO and a senior vice president in August of 2008. Prior to joining Google, Pichette worked at Bell Canada for seven years and also was also a partner at McKinsey & Company.

CNBC reports that Pichette informed Google earlier this month that he planned to retire. Google says that Pichette will help the company find a replacement for him. The transition is expected to occur over the next six months.

Patrick Pichette often takes parts in Google’s quarterly earning calls, last month giving an update on the company Glass initiative. Pichette is well liked within Google and is one of five executive officers and an instrumental part of the leadership team.

Pichette, in a post on Google+, explained that he wishes to take a step back from 25-30 years of nonstop work and focus more on his family.

After nearly 7 years as CFO, I will be retiring from Google to spend more time with my family.  Yeah, I know you’ve heard that line before.  We give a lot to our jobs.  I certainly did.  And while I am not looking for sympathy, I want to share my thought process because so many people struggle to strike the right balance between work and personal life.
