HTC purportedly planning to monetize its Sense home screen

The notorious leakster Upleaks has today posted a new image that appears to be an HTC training slide, outlining how the company plans to monetize the home screen of your HTC handset. Yes, you heard that right, HTC—if this rumor turns out to be true—is going to be placing ads and product promotions within its HTC Sense Home home screen…

The image outlines two goals that the company has for moneitizing its users: the first is to generate revenue through sponsored app downloads, and the second is through promotions to drive sales of its own products and those of “strategic partners”. The “feature” hasn’t started rolling out yet, but Upleaks says that the latest version of HTC Sense Home already has the frameworks in place.

Of course—since this is Android after all—you can avoid these ads and HTC’s home screen completely if you’d like. That said, it’s still unfortunate to see that HTC plans to try and pull some extra pennies from its Sense home screen users. Sense Home is supposed to keep you updated on “the content you care about,” and it’s not very likely that having ads placed front-and-center would qualify for most people as something they “care about.”
