Samsung has begun sending out an email to Samsung Wallet users notifying them that the service will no longer be available as of June 30th (via SamMobile). The email says that coupons clipped with Samsung Wallet will no longer be available after the termination date, but that all “tickets & reservations” will still be available by visiting partner applications…

The shutdown of the service shouldn’t come as a surprise considering the imminent launch of Samsung Pay, which the Korean company said in March would be coming to the US “this summer”. The company says the service will work with far more merchants and stores than Apple Pay thanks to its acquisition of LoopPay, and Visa and Mastercard have been announced as partners, along with American Express, Bank of America, and JP Morgan Chase.

There likely aren’t that many users of Samsung Wallet in the wild, but those who do use the service in 2015 are probably die-hards. For those users, this announcement will probably be a bit of an annoyance. But for the rest of us (especially those that actually use Samsung’s phones), this just means that Samsung Pay is that much closer.
