Google I/O: 4000 Android devices & Wear apps, 17M Chromecasts sold, Android TV/Auto growth, 1B+ users, more

Google is kicking off its I/O developer conference today with its usual keynote presentation. The focus this year was the future of Android with a lot of stage time dedicated to Android Wear smartwatches, Android M, its new Android Pay service, and much more. Below we’re rounding up some of the stats and numbers shared by Google execs on stage including updates on the user base for its core services and how its new Android platforms have grown over the last year:

-Gmail now has over 900M users

-4000 distinct Android devices

-1B+ users each for Search, YouTube, Maps, Android, Chrome

-Android Pay launching in over 1000 apps, 700K US stores

-600m new smartphone users in past year (total, not just Android), but…

-8 out of 10 phones shipped last year based on Android

-Android at 400 OEMs, 500 carriers

-Android Wear now at 7 models

-Android Auto now at 35 car manufactures

-Android TV user base doubled in last 3 months

-17M Chromecast devices sold

-1.5B cast button presses

-20K cast supported apps

-4000 Android Wear apps, 1500 watch 

-Google voice recognition error rate down from 23% to 8% since last year

-1 billion entities in the Knowledge Graph

-Nexus 9 standby battery life up to 2x longer with Android M
