Sony’s Xperia Z4 comes to the United States as the Z4v for Verizon

When the Sony Xperia Z4 was announced earlier this year, we weren’t sure when—if ever—it would be coming to the United States. Now, as has been announced this morning by Verizon, it looks like the Japanese company is bringing the device to North America by way of the Big Red. As we noted before, the device definitely isn’t a drastic departure from what we know of as the Xperia Z3. But the Z4v brings some improvements and features that the Z4 doesn’t have…

On board, you’ll find a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor, 3 GB of RAM, a 20.7-megapixel main camera with support for 4K video, a 5-megapixel front cam, and the usual connectivity interfaces like 802.11 a/b/g/n WiFi. The phone also sports IP 65 and 68 environmental protection, and 32 GB of expandable storage via microSD card. As mentioned, the phone will only be coming to Verizon Wireless—at least at the time of this writing.

With the Xperia Z4v, you’ll find a better 5.2-inch 2560 x 1440 resolution screen, a slightly-higher capacity 3000 mAh battery, Qi and PowerMat wireless charging support, and a slightly different form factor. While the Z4 and Z3+ are both around 146 x 72 x 6.9 mm, the Z4v is 144.4 x 72.3 x 8.6 mm in size. Thanks to a lot of these slight differences, the phone also comes in at a slightly heavier 160 grams, compared to the 144 grams of the standard Xperia Z4.

Verizon says that the phone will be available “this summer” in both black and white colors, and that accessories from “leading brands” will be available at some point as well. We’ll be sure to let you know when we get more details, but for now you can go peruse Sony’s new Xperia Z4v website.
