Google Maps’ Street View icon turns into a flying saucer over Area 51

Google Maps is an very powerful tool. While parts of it are extremely helpful and practical, there are others that are just there for a good laugh. Thanks to some attentive Maps users on Reddit, it would appear that Google’s mapping service has a fun treat awaiting users when traveling to Area 51.

If you head to Google Maps on desktop and drag the Street View cartoon character over Area 51, it will transform from its regular yellow human form into a flying saucer.

This obviously doesn’t add any real functionality to Maps, but it’s still a fun little feature to play around with.

Another Redditor also commented that the Street View icon turns into the Queen of England when hovering it over Buckingham Palace, and after testing this out ourselves, we can confirm that this does in fact work as well.

Happy Friday!
