Asus announces a slew of new phones, including ZenFone 2 Deluxe and 5,000mAh ZenFone Max

ZenFone Max and ZenFone 2 Deluxe

Asus has just announced the availability of a huge range of new ZenFone smartphones and ZenPad tablets at its ZenFestival event in New Delhi, India. Among them are the ZenFone Selfie, ZenFone 2 Deluxe, ZenFone 2 Laser and ZenFone Max. A couple of those were already demoed by the company at Computex in June, but now we know which market they’re heading to first: India.

Of the new smartphones, it’s the ZenFone Max that most catches my attention. It has a huge 5,000mAh battery to keep its 5.5-inch, Gorilla Glass 4 coated IPS display powered for at least a couple of days use, and makes use of Snapdragon 410, 64-bit processor with 2GB RAM. It also features a 13MP rear camera with f/2.0 aperture and laser auto-focus and a 5MP front facing camera. Sadly, no price has been given on the Max, but we do know it’ll launch in India at some point in October.

The ZenFone 2 Deluxe and ZenFone 2 Laser are variations on the disruptive, recently announced ZenFone 2. The Deluxe has an unusually design rear shell, or what Asus calls a “gorgeous new multifaceted polygonal finish“. It has a full HD IPS 5.5-inch display, 13MP/5MP rear and front cameras, a 2.3GHz 64-bit Intel Atom processor with 4GB RAM and 4G LTE. It also features quick-charge technology to give you up to 60% charge in just 39 minutes. As a kicker, there’s also 128GB internal storage and it’ll be available in India for 22,999 Rupees (approx $360).

The Laser on the other hand is a family of phones with the camera as the main focus. There are 5-inch, 5.5-inch and 6-inch models of the ZenFone 2 Laser, and all have the 13MP f/2.0 camera on the back with “zero shutter lag”. What’s more, as the name suggests, they’re also equipped with laser autofocus technology. They’re coated with Gorilla Glass 4 on the front, 2 or 3GB RAM inside and a 64-bit octa-core Snapdragon 410 or 615 processor depending on which size you go for.

Prices obviously differ for each model too. You’re looking at 9,999 Rupees ($160 USD) for the 5.5-inch model and 17,999 Rupees ($280) for the 6-inch phone. No price has been given for the smallest model yet.

ZenFone Selfie and ZenFone 2 Laser

As for the ZenFone Selfie, the name says it all. It’s designed for taking great pictures with the front facing camera. It has 13MP on the front and the back, both paired with dual-LED true tone flash and laser auto-focus. It also has a 5.5-inch full HD IPS display.

ZenFone Selfie’s exceptional front-facing PixelMaster camera has a huge 13MP resolution and an f/2.2-aperture, 88-degree wide-angle lens to capture more of every smile. The unique Selfie Panorama mode enables selfies with an outlook of up to 140 degrees, so everything and everyone becomes part of the shot.

Today’s announcement was all about India, hence the venue of the ZenFestival. No word has been given yet as to whether or not we might expect these devices to land in Europe or the US, but if we hear more, we’ll be sure to update you.
