HTC One A9 passes through certification ahead of likely Oct. 20 launch

GCF, the Global Certification Forum has preemptively congratulated HTC on having its as-yet announced One A9 pass through certification. It’s the first time we’ve seen the name officially listed.

It’s expected HTC will release several different models of the A9 to suit various markets. The device linked to by GCF supports LTE Cat 6 on bands 1, 3, 5, 7, 8, 20 and 28, suggesting this is the device primed for launch in Africa, Asia and Europe…

As spotted in the FCC’s listings by GforGames, there are two more models which look to be aimed at a North American launch. One device — 2PQ9120 — has support for bands 2, 4, 5, 7 and 12, making it a prime candidate for launch on T-Mobile US and Canadian carrier, Bell. Another device — 20Q9300 — supports several bands, including 25 and 26 which suggests it may be coming to Sprint.

The One A9, sometimes dubbed ‘Aero’, has been one of this summer’s most frequently-leaked smartphones. Most rumors have stated we should be looking forward to a device with an iPhone-esque metal phone with slightly rounded corners and a camera placed centrally near the top edge. It’s likely to be fashion focussed, and come in a choice of six metallic colors including Acid Gold, Opal Silver, Deep Garnet, Carbon Gray, Rose Gold and Cast Iron.

As for internal specs, from what we’ve seen and heard so far, it could sit at the high-end of the mid-range phone market. It’s predicted to have an octa-core Snapdragon 817 processor, 5-inch Full HD AMOLED display, 2GB RAM, 16GB storage (expandable) and a 13MP rear camera with optical image stabilization. What’s more, it’ll be HTC’s first phone to ship with Android 6.0 Marshmallow and will have a relatively small 2,150mAh battery.

HTC recently invited media to tune in to a virtual announcement on October 20th, at which the company is likely to unveil its premium mid-ranger. With 15 days to go, we have to wonder, is this the device the Taiwanese tech giant needs to turn its financial fortunes around?
