Play Store listings now tell you when an app has Android Wear support

Since day one of the Apple Watch, iOS users have been able to get a quick glance at which apps have a companion Apple Watch app and which ones don’t. Android users have never had this luxury, and have instead been left guessing — or reading a site like this one — to find out whether or not a given app will have a wrist companion. Now, that has changed thanks to a new Android Wear icon that’s appearing on the Play Store…

It doesn’t appear to be showing up on every single app that has Android Wear support just yet, but Skype is one among many that are accurately represented by the icon. You’ll find it on the app’s main Play Store page right about the “Read more” label, and then — as you can see above — you’ll see a larger icon at the bottom of that section right above the app’s version number, downloads number, size, and recently updated date.

This may not be the most groundbreaking feature, but it’s definitely useful. When downloading an app, you now have a clear indicator to go looking on your Android Wear device for a companion smartwatch app. It’s something that seems minor at first, but when you consider that most apps had no other method of notifying their users of their Android Wear counterpart (and users’ following surprise when they stumble on them), it’s more than a welcome addition.
