Huawei’s Honor brand to enter the US at CES 2016, likely with the Honor 5X

We told you a few days ago that Honor, a brand of primarily low-end smartphones owned by Huawei, sent out invites for an event early next year at CES. The wording in that invite was very vague, mentioning only new “creative and smart technology,” but now we have more of an idea what the company has planned. As we previously speculated, it appears Honor is planning to officially enter the United States market…

“The United States market is the highest end market for Huawei, so we have been planning for a vey long time,” said George Zhao, President of Honor Global at a press event held following the Honor 2nd anniversary festival in Shenzhen, China. “The International CES is planned for January, as you know, so you should expect to hear more about our United States plan at that time.”

We mentioned this earlier, but one source familiar with the company’s plans has now said that the Honor 5X is the phone that Honor will announce at the event. That phone has a 5.5-inch 1080p display with a middle-of-the-road Snapdragon 616 system-on-a-chip. The device, at least in its current form available in China, comes in both 2GB and 3GB RAM variants. The phone has 16GB of expandable flash storage by default, and 13- and 5-megapixel cameras on the back and front, respectively.

Honor’s CES event is scheduled to take place in Las Vegas on Tuesday, January 5th 2016 at 8 PM. We’ll be in Vegas for CES — as usual — and keep you updated as the announcements unfold.
