Following some very strong quarterly results, Huawei today revealed that 2015 was a resounding success. Although it was a little light on details, the company (as reported by WSJ) saw its full-year revenue for 2015 rise to 390 billion yuan (roughly $60.1 billion USD). That’s up more than 35% on the full calendar year previous…

Huawei’s acting Chief Executive, Guo Ping stated that the company also saw a “solid increase in profits and cash flow,” suggesting the manufacturer’s recent climb up the market share ladder is reaping serious financial reward. In the third quarter of this year, Huawei overtook Xiaomi as the biggest seller of smartphones in China, while it also saw its global share rise dramatically. Thanks to its sub-brand, Honor, it also became the second biggest seller of Android phones in Europe.

With devices like the Nexus 6P and Huawei Watch on the market, we have every reason to believe 2016 is going to be an even better year for the Chinese manufacturer. That’s why it made it on to our list of companies you should watch in 2016. The Android OEM is one or two new phones away from being a major household name in western markets, and could soon be challenging Samsung for the #1 crown in the Android world.

It reached 100 million smartphone shipments in 2015 and will surely beat that next year as it launches its popular, affordable Honor brand in the US. It’s still some way behind Samsung’s 400 million shipments, but it’s clear that it has the potential to pull customers away from the Korean tech giant.
