Report: Galaxy S7 will see hefty battery upgrade, water resistance, and a microSD slot

In the last few weeks, the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S7 has been pretty well leaked. This morning saw an image of its front panel, as well as more detailed specifications. In a report, VentureBeat confirms those things and reveals some new tidbits about the device.

While the Galaxy S6 is a widely applauded phone, many users have gripes about battery life and the lack of a removable battery. To address these concerns, the S7 will have a 3000mAh battery while the S7 edge will see a 1000mAh battery bump to 3600mAh. Samsung is sticking with its battery decision, but they will bring back the microSD slot for expansion, a long fixture of the Galaxy line.

Also returning is the S5’s water resistance. Both the S7 and the S7 edge will reportedly be rated with IP67 dust and water resistance. The VentureBeat report also notes that the device’s camera will be downgraded to 12MP from 16MP. This has the benefit of removing the camera bump and allowing for better low light photography.

This report also confirms the S7’s 4GB of RAM and 32/64GB of storage. The processor will vary depending on region with North America getting a Snapdragon 820 and international variants using a Exynos 8 Octa 8890 processor.

The device is expected to launch at the Mobile World Congress in late February. Also expected to launch then is the LG G5.
