Galaxy S7 pre-orders rumored to open on Feb. 21, free Gear VR for early shoppers

According to Android World‘s ‘reliable’ sources, Samsung will open pre-orders for the Galaxy S7 on the same day that it announces the device at MWC in Barcelona; February 21. What’s more, it’s claimed that early shoppers who order between Feb 21 and March 10 will receive a free Gear VR set.

Pre-ordered phones are purportedly due for shipment from March 11th, which matches up with a previous rumor that the device will get its retail launch on that day. Android World says customers who want the free VR set will need to register through a separate promotional site, and receive the unit at a later date.

Samsung’s next flagship smartphone is likely to be the biggest talking point of MWC 2016, which is due to kick off in just over a week’s time. Samsung, like LG and Huawei, will be hosting a press event to launch its new devices on Sunday, February 21st.

It’s expected that the Korean tech giant will launch the flagship Galaxy S7 alongside the S7 Edge. Both devices will be powered by the latest Snapdragon and Exynos processors. While the regular S7 is likely to feature a QHD resolution 5.1/5.2-inch display, the larger, dual-curved Edge model is predicted to have a 5.5-inch screen. There have been rumors of USB Type-C connectivity, larger batteries and pressure-sensitive displays, but those aren’t concrete just yet.

Whatever the exact details of the devices, we’re not convinced having monster specs is going to be enough for Samsung this year. With the ever decreasing cost of high-end parts, smaller, more competitive manufacturers are producing flagship-like phones at far lower prices than Samsung can manage.

In the mean time, if you want to get the S7 look on your existing devices, you can download the wallpapers here.
