LG partnering with B&O Play to bring ‘Signature Sound’ to the G5

In a press release this morning, LG announced that it has partnered with renowned audio company, B&O Play to bring high quality sound performance to the LG G5. The Korean tech giant notes that it has been working with the audio firm to ensure that the G5 has “the best sound experience” available to smartphone users.

Exactly what that means in terms of specific audio performance is unknown. The press release is suitably vague, but let’s hope it’s not another needless brand-name tie-in with no actual benefits to the user. Given the rise of devices adopting Hi-Res audio, I’d be surprised if that wasn’t included, but I take nothing for granted.

In the past, HTC partnered with Beats Audio for some of its devices, while the Alcatel OneTouch Idol 3 shipped with JBL-branded headphones. It will be interesting to see if the G5 has any B&O branding on it, or perhaps on the earphones in the retail packaging.

“We are very excited to work with LG. With LG’s dedication to premium smartphones, the collaboration gives us the opportunity to bring B&O PLAY’s acoustic excellence to an even broader customer base,” said Henrik Taudorf Lorensen, President of B&O PLAY. “B&O PLAY appeals to music lovers who want the best available products on the market. They are uncompromisingly innovative, without boundaries and constantly on the go and they expect the same from the headphones as well as the mobile devices they choose, so this is a perfect match.”

As we know, the G5 will be announced at an event on Sunday afternoon in Barcelona, and we’ll be there to bring you all the news as it comes.
