Roundup: Best cases already available for the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge

Samsung only announced the Galaxy S7 a few days ago, but already a number of case manufacturers have been keen to get our attention. It’s no exaggeration to say there are hundreds of case options already available for the latest S-series flagships…

For the second year running, Samsung has released an all metal and glass smartphone as its line-leader. Despite Corning Gorilla Glass’ protective properties, it’s not immune to scratching or cracking. That means you’re probably looking for a case for your newly pre-ordered or soon-to-be-ordered device.

Whatever your budget, we think there is at least one option for you. Whether you’re wanting a completely transparent case, a leather wallet-style holder, a super-durable shell or you just want something decent for less than $15, we have you covered. And if nothing on our list takes your fancy, don’t worry, there are dozens more options available to choose from.

Speck CandyShell Clear – $39.95

Speck has made a name for itself in the case market and produces some of the best-designed cases for all kinds of smartphones. The CandyShell Clear, as the name suggests, is a transparent/translucent case. Although you can’t quite tell from the images, it’s made from two different materials. The rear panel is a hard polycarbonate fused with more flexible rubber around the ports, edges and buttons and promises military-grade protection. It comes with a 1-year warranty, and is available for both the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge.

Speck CandyShell Grip – $34.95

CandyShell Grip shares a name with the Clear, and it does have some similarities. It’s pretty much exactly the same shape, and combines two materials, but does so differently. The softer, more flexible material features in grippy strips on the back, and on the inside of the case as well as around buttons and ports. That means it doesn’t just protect, it stays in your hand more easily and looks cool too. For any device, the Grip has been one of my favorite cases ever. Both Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge versions are available, but there are more color variants for the standard S7.

Urban Armor Gear – $34.95

Urban Armor Gear, like Speck, has made a name for itself in the case market, and did so through its unique industrial, almost military-like design language. Cases feature fake bolts in the design and are incredibly well made. For its standard case, there are 7 colors available for the Galaxy S7 and 4 colors available for Galaxy S7 Edge.

Otterbox Symmetry Series – $39.95

Otterbox is a name synonymous with protection for smartphones. Its cases are normally very bulky and unsightly, but the Symmetry series changed that. As well as being robust and durable, the Symmetry looks good, especially these exclusive patterned ones. If these patterns are a little out there for your taste, you can still get the case in more traditional color combinations. All options are available for Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge.

Spigen Neo Hybrid – From $16.99

Spigen’s cases are a bit hit and miss, but normally, they’re a great value for money. They often offer great design and decent protection against the daily bumps and scrapes we all inflict on our precious devices. The Neo Hybrid has been one of my favorite designs for some time now, and it’s now available for Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge in 3-4 colors and prices starting at just under $17.

Lifeproof Frē – $79.99

Despite Samsung’s promises of water resistance, for some people, that will never be enough protection. All of Lifeproof’s cases seal the device from virtually all elements. They’ll not get water damaged, become inhabited by clouds of dust, or smashed up. The Frē is Available for S7 from Amazon or Lifeproof direct and ships within a month or two. There’s no S7 Edge model, more than likely because the curved screen makes it difficult to produce the same waterproof and dust-proof qualities.

Spigen Wallet S – $16.99

For many, the perfect case is the one which lets them walk out without having to carry a separate wallet. The Spigen Wallet S combined both wallet and leather case in to one unit in the usual folio-style form factor. Spigen is selling both Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge versions.

Obliq Slim Metal – $14.99

If you just want a slim, affordable case with a touch of class, Obliq has a metal effect slim case which is available in all four of today’s trendy metal colors: black, silver, rose gold and gold. Like most cases on this list, it’s available at the same price for both Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge.
