Updated Google app lets users make a custom colored logo, adds new Now on Tap animations

An updated version of the Google app rolling out this afternoon adds new animations to Now on Tap and a whimsical finger painting-like feature to make a custom colored Google logo.

It usually takes Now on Tap a few seconds to analyze a screen before providing useful information. In the past, a blue spinning circle acted as a progress indicator. It has since been replaced by a series of icons including a magnifying glass, eating utensils, a musical tune, and other search related icons.

Version 5.10 also brings a new whimsical feature to the Google logo present on top of the Now cards stream. This feature works on all devices updated to the new version the app, though it might take a second to load.

Users will notice an enlarged Google logo that occupies the fill width of their device. At first, it is shown in its normal colors, but it will slowly fade into white. Whatever part of the logo a user taps will be filled with a splotch of color. Every touch changes the color and by the end users will have a uniquely colored Google logo. Interestingly, users are not limited to the logo’s usual four colors, but rather many lighter colors and shades. After a device reboot, the logo resets back to white.

In the past, Google has created increasingly interactive Doodles for their homepages. What exact occasion this interactive logo marks is unknown.
