Motorola teams up with ‘grandfather of graffiti’ Futura to tag a limited run of Moto X Pure handsets

Motorola’s Moto X line has consistently been a lineup of devices which enabled users to express their individuality. Ever since the first version was released with the Moto Maker tool, customers could make the phone look how they wanted it to. At the time, it was initially just a few different colors of plastic, with wooden backs added later on.

Fast forward a couple of years, and we now have multiple plastic colors, multiple wood options and a handful of leather backs. Recently, Motorola teamed up with designer, Jonathan Adler to offer limited patterns, and has now partnered with legendary graffiti artist, Futura, on an even more limited run.

Futura, real name Leonard McGurr, has partnered with Motorola to tag around 30 Moto X Pure handsets. The video below shows the well-known artist spraying the devices in such a way that no single phone will look like another, making every single one ever so slightly unique.

While the handsets are undoubtedly interesting, perhaps even awesome, Motorola hasn’t announced when or if they’re going to be made available for sale. That means we don’t know any pricing details either.

If I was to hazard a guess, with the number of devices being so limited, I’d think the devices will be auctioned as an effort to raise money for a chosen charity. With there seemingly only being 30 devices, they could potentially raise far more money at auction for each device than they would if they just made them available to buy from the Motorola Store. You’d think, if they were being made available for general sale, that the artist would have to tag hundreds, if not thousands, of smartphones.
