Android 6.0.1 now rolling out to NVIDIA Shield Tablet K1 w/ bug fixes & support for Vulcan API

Update 5/12: Android 6.0.1 is now rolling out to the original NVIDIA Shield Tablet with the same fixes, features, and support for the Vulkan API.

Following the NVIDIA Shield Android TV receiving its Marshmallow update, the Tablet K1 is getting a smaller update to Android 6.0.1 today. The OTA includes bug fixes, several software tweaks, Android security patches, and support for the Vulkan API in games.

Just this morning, Google announced that Android N will support the Vulkan API for better graphics performance. The Shield Android TV added support in February and today’s update will allow games to efficiently access the K1’s graphics hardware.

Moving to Android 6.0.1 repositions the navigation buttons in landscape and adds updated emoji. Users can now also double tap the power button to launch the camera app. There are additional power optimizations and better support for Doze mode, as well as memory enhancements.

Other fixes include improved Wi-Fi connectivity when waking from sleep, restored compass functionality, and being able to move apps to an SD card. The OTA update is rolling out now and the full changelog is below:
