HTC’s long-rumored smartwatch reportedly delayed… again

Rumors of an HTC-made Android Wear watch have been tossed around for more than a year now. Before Mobile World Congress last year, many thought that the company would finally launch its offering as it was rumored that the company had a wearable planned to be shown off. In reality, the company launched a fitness wearable made in partnership with Under Armour. That device never even hit the market.

Recently, well-respected leakster Evan Blass suggested that the long-awaited Android Wear offering from the company would finally launch the week of June 6th. Now, the same guy is pulling that claim, suggesting that HTC has delayed its wearable once again — to the fall…

At this point I would take any rumor about the device with a grain of salt. That said, a release in the fall might make a lot more sense than launching now. With Computex will under way (and the launch of ASUS’ new line of phones), and Lenovo planning to shake things up next week at Tech World with the launch of new Moto phones and the Lenovo Project Tango phone, an HTC-made smartwatch would likely get swept under the rug.

Another interesting thing to note is that HTC is rumored — and we’ve heard this ourselves from our own sources as well — to be making the next lineup of Nexus phones. We’ve seen benchmarks, and Blass himself has said the same. “HTC is building a pair of Android N devices for Google internally dubbed M1 and S1,” he tweeted earlier this year. A smartwatch launch alongside these phones might make sense, especially if the device is an Android Wear watch.

What a clusterf***: HTC wearable bumped again, to the fall. Hurry up, HTC, before people realize that they don't really need these products.
