Google’s upcoming Allo and Duo apps just got slightly redesigned icons

In case you didn’t hear, Google is planning to launch a couple of new messaging apps in the “summer”: Allo and Duo. The former is a familiar messaging app that builds in support for some of Google’s machine learning and AI technologies (and some more quirky new features), and the latter is a super-simple one-to-one video calling app that boasts speed and encryption.

Now, with the apps’ launches coming just around the corner (“this summer”, Google says), Google has given both a new updated icon…

It’s a very minor update, with Allo moving from a red text on a gray background to white text on a blue background. Previously, Duo had the same blue background that Allo now has, but the video calling app now sports a gray background with blue text. Basically, this move makes the two apps seem more related. Allo’s red was previously a stark contrast to the blue Duo icon.

As far as we know, the new icons are all that Google has changed about the apps. It’s too bad that we don’t have some more leaked early builds so that we can see what other progress the Mountain View company is making. We’ll just have to wait and see.
