PSA: AT&T’s Galaxy S6 Active now receiving Android 6.0 Marshmallow

AT&T is today beginning its rollout of Android 6.0 Marshmallow to the Galaxy S6 active. The phone is the latest to receive the latest version of Google’s mobile OS, which was first announced in the summer of 2015…

Effective July 5, 2016, AT&T released a software update for the Samsung Galaxy S6 active (SM-G890A). You can download this update via Firmware Over The Air (FOTA).  A Wi-Fi connection is required for the update.

This update of course packs all the features that Google first showed off on stage at Google I/O 2015. You’ll find Now on Tap on board for searching for contextual info from anywhere on your phone, Doze mode to save battery life, an improved Permissions system, and AT&T says that this update also packs Wi-Fi calling (read more about that at AT&T’s site).

You can find instructions on how to update over at AT&T’s support site, but the gist is this: make sure you have a couple GB of empty space, make sure your phone is charged, connect to Wi-Fi, and then head to the “Software Update” section of the Settings app and tap “Check for updates”.
