Alcatel’s IDOL 4S is $349 in the US, pre-orders open up later this week [Update: Now available]

Back at MWC 2016 Alcatel announced their latest smartphones in the new IDOL 4 series. Successors to the popular IDOL 3 family, the IDOL 4 and IDOL 4S promised to be premium devices with affordable price tags and now, several months later, the company is finally releasing more information about these long-awaited devices.

Alcatel has announced that it will put the IDOL 4S, the higher-end of the two devices, up for pre-order starting this Friday, July 15th, at 8AM PDT. For now the device will be sold exclusively through Alcatel’s website unlocked for GSM networks although it should be coming to other retailers within a few weeks.

As for pricing, the IDOL 4S will come in at $349 in the United States. While that’s considerably higher than last year’s IDOL 3, we are getting better build quality, improved specifications, and new features in this device.

Alcatel IDOL 4S packs a 5.5-inch Quad HD AMOLED display with a Snapdragon 652 processor, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, and a 16MP camera. You’ll also get a 3,000 mAh battery with Quick Charging and dual speakers on each side of the device. The packaging will also double as a VR viewer to tie into Alcatel’s included VR app store. You can learn more about these devices in our hands-on from MWC below.

Update: Alcatel has just opened up pre-orders for the IDOL 4S for $349. Shipping kicks off in early August with a $50 price increase coming the same day.
