Sonos app gets Plex media server support in Android beta

The popular media streaming server Plex is announcing support for Sonos today, meaning you’ll now be able to access your Plex library from within the Sonos app for streaming to your Sonos speaker system.

Plex detailed how the integration works on its blog:

With our brand new Sonos service, you can now browse and play your entire Plex music collection on any Sonos device, right from the Sonos app. This means you’ll benefit from our awesome library and discovery features, and your personal music will look better than ever on Sonos.

Plex Pass users will “find their music collections automatically organized via metadata and sonic fingerprinting,” and the feature called “Plex Mix” is also limited to premium users through the new Sonos app.

The Plex media server is available to install on Mac, Windows, Linux and NAS devices, and it automatically organizes video, music, and photo content making it accessible through apps available for iOS, Apple TV, and other smartphone, tablet, and TV devices.

You can try the new Plex integration within the Sonos app starting today, but you’ll need to first sign-up for the Sonos beta program if you haven’t already. You can learn more about how the Plex support works here.
