OnePlus struggles to keep up with demand in Europe, will temporarily stop sales of the 3 in select countries

There has to be some sort of curse in the tech world for OnePlus, from which consumers are the primary victims. However, the Chinese OEM fares no better, and amid post-Brexit price surges, it looks like other European customers too will be affected by another form of disservice, whose fault may or may not be on the firm’s shoulders…

While the infamous (and now fortunately gone) invite system had the one positive effect of keeping the supply and demand chain under control, opening the gates — read: allowing everyone to simply go on their website and hit the “purchase” button — meant that unforeseen demand was bound to cause problems to OnePlus’ stock.

And, apparently, that is precisely what has happened, at least in Europe. As per a blogpost issued today by the company’s co-founder Carl Pei, “sales in mainland Europe have been way better than what we expected,” which has in turn prompted them to halt the sales of their 3 flagship “in order to give inventory time to replenish.”

Not all countries will be affected, however: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Estonia, France, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia and Spain are the ones included (as well as Hong Kong), while the time frame will see the 3 unavailable to buy from August 9th 0:00 (CEST) until September 12th 23:59 (CEST).

As per Pei’s post:

We are working hard to secure more stock and fire up more production lines so that we can fulfill our goal of putting premium products into the hands of as many people as possible. With this note I wanted to give customers in affected regions enough advance notice to be able to purchase a OnePlus 3. If you’re planning to purchase but can’t do it before we pause sales, we’ll be offering an in-stock notification service where you can sign up with your email address to be notified when we’re back in stock.
